2 teenagers hurt in Pennsylvania car accident

A single-vehicle accident has left two teen girls in serious condition. The car accident, which took place late in the evening of June 1, also injured four other people, most younger than the age of 18. Pennsylvania police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

Pennsylvania fire officials report the six individuals were traveling in a sports car when the vehicle left the road and crashed into a telephone pole. All six individuals were injured, including the driver, an 18-year-old male. The two girls in the car suffered the worst injuries; one was airlifted to a local hospital and the other was rushed by ambulance.

The other four occupants of the vehicle suffered only minor injuries. Police have yet to speculate as to whether alcohol or unsafe speed played a role in the accident. The investigation is ongoing as of this writing, but given the ages of the individuals involved, police have not released the identities of anyone but the driver in order to protect the privacy of the families.

As the investigation progresses, it is hoped some light will be shed on the nature of the car accident. As a general rule, however, Pennsylvania law holds that a driver is responsible for the safety of the passengers in his or her vehicle. Given this is the case, it may be possible for the injured parties -- particularly the two girls currently in the hospital -- to seek reparations from the driver in the form of a personal injury lawsuit. In addition to the teenaged driver, any separate owner of the vehicle he was operating may be joined as a defendant in the litigation.
